March 31, 2008“…unable to look others in the eye. He cannot connect with people the same way I can when I look someone in the eyes.”
This person clearly had read the book or at least knew what it was about. As an Autistic person, the author has a hard time looking others in the eyes. This shows that eye contact can differ because of being mentally challenged.
“I thought I was being told to look the author in the eye…”
This post took the title completely literally. They had not known what it was about when they initially read the title, thus, it is no surprise some people just thought they were supposed to look the author in the eye. This shows an idea that people demand eye contact from others. Some people feel uncomfortable looking people in the eyes, but other feel uncomfortable when people won’t look them in the eyes.
“I imagined someone telling an autistic person to look them in the eye…I was already aware that its difficult”
This person was awake of the premise, and not only that but was aware of the difficulty for an Autistic person to look someone in the eye. I worked with Autistic kids in high school and I was most definitely aware of this challenge also. It was hard to get used to because I like when people look in my eyes. But of course, my duty was to work with the kids, so I got used to it quickly. Other people have a hard time getting used to things such as this, especially if they are not used to it. This idea relates to the question of “Why are you writing sideways?” This person was not used to this and questioned it.

Meanwhile, Back In Communist Russia…
March 31, 2008There was a bear. But to change direction, the few people that have already posted are in the right playing field. We have so much controversy in class, even though we all are working around the same ideas. We are relating our Wiki to the culture around Umass in a unique way, because it is straight from the students. I, as well as another class-mate would like to focus on music. This is great because we can collaborate to make the content even stronger. I am sure there is music that we each like, that the other doesn’t, or has not heard, thus we can learn from each other to make a more well rounded and affective wiki-page. Things are starting to get a bit more fluid, and fun in relation. There was a point where it was clear some folks were just finding the wiki an annoyance, but here we are progressing towards the great goal.

Wikiwikiwikiowwww
March 24, 2008Clever title I KNOW. Sooo… As we near our Wiki Building Experience, I would love to do something involving music for it. In the case that we make our umass directorial-helper-survival-fun-maybe-not-so-fun-but-who-cares-lets-roll-guide, I would like to highlight the music atmosphere around here. Whether it is Umass bands, or bands coming to umass/northhampton/bars in surrounding towns, I would like to display this information. Not only would I like to display this information, but have links to additional information such as, band reviews, websites, myspace, xanga, live journal, dead journal, purgatory journal, wordpress, well you get the picture. And speaking of PICTURE… MAYBE have some band photos along with the display. woweewikiwowee

FUCK!
March 10, 2008Fuck… I was about to post the dictionary.com definition, but there is about 13 of them. Being one that says it quite a lot, I accomplish all 13 definitions on most days. It is a bit sad when I think about it sometimes, but … fuck it. It is a term mostly used in slang. Ex. “Fuck off” (Agressively telling someone to leave you alone), “just fuckin’ around” (messing around, or for some kinder slang expressing this, dilly dallying), and “fuck you!” )this popular phrase is a response to someone treating you unfairly). More definitively we use it describing sexual embrace between 2 or more people. The etymology of the word is uncertain, but there are a few theories. I have heard it stems from the acronym, “Fornication Under Consent of the King” This however is wrong according to Wikipedia. This is just a false etymology. Some similar terms would be Germanic words such as “fokken’ (to breed) in Dutch, and “ficken” (to copulate) in German. It is quite unsure where it came from, but it has made a heavy impact on language today. It is seemingly the most common slang term we hear everyday.

While it’s fresh in the mind… (categories)
February 5, 2008I wanted to do the assignments while they were fresh in my mind. So here is how I categorized the “Followers” thoughts…
a) interpersonal issues
-Wondering what the followers are doing and talk about the number of followers in the class. – I think that downstairs everyone at first sat for a while talking amongst themselves. -using their computers -> aim, facebook, sports -wondering why they are downstairs -being hungry -text messaging -going home
b) patterns in group behavior
-Talking, chatting. -Talk about the homework assignment. -I think that downstairs everyone at first sat for a while talking amongst themselves. – talking about the syllabus -talking about other non-academic things -wondering why they are downstairs -doing the same thing we’re doing?
c) group task
-Discussing about the syllabus and deciding whether to say in the class. -Ultimately I think they designated a writer to write on the board, & brainstormed about leadership qualities -talking about the syllabus -doing the same thing we’re doing? - Making lists of characteristics for both sides
d) issues of leadership
-Then the true ‘leaders’ of the leaders group stepped up and prompted the others to generate ideas. -I bet most of the time is spent trying to figure out how to be leaders amongst other leaders. -I wonder if they considered designating actual leaders of the leader group to prove something, but I doubt they actually did. (Although maybe someone lead the discussion.) – Why are leaders in the basement

No Go To No Mas
January 29, 2008While I do find it interesting… I simply cannot afford to go to Boston because of not only money, but it will interfere with an important course I am taking. This is a boring reason I know. I still do not feel informed enough to make a decision on my stance on the subject matter, but I have never been part of a protest so it would be cool to experience that (and learn more about the subject matter.) My decision relates to the course, because I chose to stay with one group (my class) because I am sure that I need to be there, unlike the protest. Going to class and my broke ass directly affects my life. Also, my teacher requires attendance thus I am conforming to what she wants. Anyone going… Have fun and let us know how it goes.
